Highly Collectable Wedgwood Black Basalt Wares for Sale
In 1768 Josiah Wedgwood developed a fine black porcelain called Wedgwood Black Basalt. With this fine-grained stoneware he was able to produce copies of the newly excavated Etruscan pottery from Italy, and this new innovation proved to be a huge commercial success.
The surface of Wedgwood Black Basalt wares is lustrous and smooth, with a purple-black sheen and Wedgwood's factory could scarcely keep up with the demand for candlesticks, medallions, tableware, figures and vases produced from Black Basalt.
This excellent product was in high demand then and these Wedgwood antiques are still highly valued today.
